Somerset West Croquet Club
SWCC was established by a group of enthusiasts in 1970. Membership soon grew as it became noted for its competitive as well as social croquet. The lawns have proved a great asset with an irrigation system to ensure they remain in good condition even in the driest of summers. A wide range of activities and events to enjoy are laid on throughout the year.
Our season starts in October and runs until early May for matches/tournaments but social play and Winter inter-club games with our Helderberg neighbours continues through out the year. Late winter and early spring is the time when we carry out rolling lawn maintenance on our 4 lawns.
Club sessions, Monday and Thursday afternoons, are quite social affairs often with refreshments brought along by members, followed by a glass of wine before going home for supper.
Coaching is an integral activity for both beginners and those with more experience. Better players with international experience are on hand to offer tuition on a regular basis
The clubhouse has a good range of facilities for hot and cold drinks, indoor and outdoor seating and a picnic area. It is used for refreshments when we have events, home matches, and for entertaining groups who come to enjoy ‘something different’, sometimes annually.
